This is a one of a kind treatment that I created for some very special clients. Flaked mica is a raw mineral that, in a rock form, has a "flaky" and shale like quality...it also has a reflective, irredecent quality to it. I purchased the mica already "flaked" paper thin from a supplier of raw craft materials. Hundreds of peices of the semi-transparent, irredecent flaked mica is applied to the chimney, layering each piece on one another in layers. Each peice of 1"- 4" mica is applied with clear adhesive by hand. A transparent coat of special gell is troweled on over the finish to fill in any gaps and to even out the surface. The end result is an artful, glamorous and truly unique focal point in this living room! ..."what is that?" immediately people are drawn to it's seductive glass like shimmer wanting to touch it...
The fireplace surround is finished with a simple metalic paint and amber color glaze.
